So Far So Good

Max was discharged from Primary Children's Hospital on Saturday, September 19th, 6 days after his first turning blue episode. After several consultations with a group of cardiologists, it was decided that Max could go home as long as he wore a heart monitor (a.k.a. holter monitor). Luckily, he only had to wear it for 24 hours before we had to send it back in. We are still waiting for the final results of that test.

As for now, everything seems to be going well with Max. His follow-up visit with our pediatrician went well and he'll go back again this coming week for his 2-month shots and well-baby check-up. We should know more about everything then. The overall consensus right now is that all of his turning blue spells were caused from his reflux. The doctors seem to think that because our family all had mild colds the week before this all happened, that perhaps he too had one and that caused his pipes to swell up a little and the flappy thing that prevents food and water from entering your lungs just got stuck. (We aren't sure how the heart accelerations plays into all of this just yet.) That being said, as long as he takes his Prevacid medication he should be okay. Reflux typically lasts throughout the first year of birth, but luckily as he gets older, his pipes should expand so that flappy thing shouldn't get stuck again. So far so good! Let's just keep praying that this was just a fluke thing that happened and we won't have to experience it ever again!

Poor little guy! I feel for you guys. I am sure this has been a scary episode for you, and I hope everything is good with him for now on.
